A man has been charged with the murder of a camper found dead in a Merseyside park.

Peter Seeclear, 45, from Toxteth, Liverpool, died while staying in a tent in Stadt Moers Park in Whiston, where he had been fishing.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said Nathan James Muat, also 45, and of Upper Parliament Street, Toxteth, had been charged with murder and was remanded into custody to appear at Sefton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

The force said Mr Seeclear had been camping with another man in the park over several days.

On the afternoon of October 30, his companion ran to a nearby house and told the occupant that Mr Seeclear had suffered a seizure and needed an ambulance, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and paramedics found no obvious injuries. A post-mortem examination later revealed his cause of death was severe traumatic chest injuries.

Police had appealed for any members of the public who may have seen Mr Seeclear in Stadt Moers Park between October 28 and 30 to come forward as they may have vital information.
