A GALASHIELS man who admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards a neighbour has been remanded in custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court for the production of background reports.

Simon Haddden pleaded guilty to the offence which happened near his Hawthorn Road home earlier this month.

The 40-year-old also admitted breaching the terms of his home curfew by failing to open the door to the police on two occasions.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said the offence happened at around 9pm when Hadden was heard shouting outside the man's house.

He explained: "He was shouting paedo c*** and f****** b******* and was well under the influence of alcohol and was staggering around.

"He opened the door in his close and disappeared but came back again and started shouting again.

"At 11pm the neighbour phoned the police.

"When they arrived the accused started shouting and swearing at them and he blamed them for waking him up.

"He continued to shout and swear and was eventually taken into custody."

Mr Fraser also described Hadden's breaches of his curfew by not answering the door to his home although the police officers could see him inside.

Defence lawyer Ross Dow said his client had been emotional over the recent passing of his father and explained the problems he was having with his neighbour claiming he was a drug dealer and his door buzzer was constantly being pressed.

He explained this was why he did not answer the door to the police.

Sheriff Derrick McIntyre called for background reports to be compiled and deferred sentence until December 4. Bail was refused and Hadden was remanded in custody.
