TWO quad bikes have been stolen after farm raiders struck twice in the Borders.

Overnight on Monday, a property near Earlston and farm between Smailholm and Gattonside were targeted.

Red Honda 420 quad bikes were stolen from both.

Police Scotland are now encouraging owners of agricultural vehicles machinery to be vigilant.

They suggest:

  • Removing keys when not in use.
  • Storing keys in a locked cabinet away from the vehicle location.
  • Keeping a record of all machinery with photographs and vehicle serial numbers.
  • Considering fitting steering locks, wheel clamps and/or locking posts and an alarm
  • Considering fitting CESAR security marking system to the vehicle.
  • Marking or customising your vehicle so it is easily identifiable.
  • Considering fitting vehicle tracking devices.
  • Parking the vehicle in a well lit area covered by a good quality CCTV system.
  • Parking as close to your premises as possible, preferably out of sight from nearby roads.
  • Parking larger vehicles in front of access doors to prevent easy access.
