A PENSIONER who admitted a £20,000 benefits fraud has been ordered to carry out 70 hours unpaid work at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Sixty eight year old Linda Doig pleaded guilty to claiming housing benefit to the value of £20,289.88 despite claiming she had no savings or capital when, in fact, she had £50,000 in accounts.
The offence happened at her home in Fairbairn Court, Greenlaw, between May 2014 and February 2018.
The court heard she has been paying back the money.
In addition, Doig's Community Pay back order involved six months supervision.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said the sentence was an alternative to a custody given the amount involved.
