STAFF from the Galashiels branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland are showing plenty interest in a national charity campaign.

Mortgage advisers, personal bankers, managers and cashiers have all signed up to the Maggie's to Maggie's Distance Challenge.

Teams across the country were tasked with covering 565 miles during November, which is the distance from the northern most Maggie's cancer centre to the southern-most.

Built on the grounds of NHS hospitals, Maggie's Centres are warm and welcoming places offering practical and emotional support to help with the challenges of living with cancer.

And all of the money they raise is match funded to help boost the total.

Although the Galashiels team admit they are far from fit, they completed the challenge with som ehelp from personal banker Gillian Macdonald, who is a qualified jog leader.

Community banker Amanda Baitup told us: "During 2017 Royal Bank employees raised more than £1 million and volunteered 15000 hours for charities and local community groups.

"We didn't hesitate on taking up this challenge as so many of our colleagues and customers have come into contact with cancer.

"We have all been walking, running and cycling and even completed a Three Brethren walk as a team."
