A KIND-HEARTED Tweedbank girl has sacrificed her flowing locks this Christmas for charity.

Frankie Harkness wanted to do her bit for cancer charities after being moved by a television advert.

And the seven-year-old, who is a pupil at St Peter’s in Galashiels, decided to donate her long blonde hair to the wig-making Little Princess Trust.

Frankie has also raised almost £350 for the organisation which supplies hundreds of wigs every year to children and young adults who have lost their hair during cancer treatments.

On the Friday before Christmas Frankie had around 15 inches of hair chopped off at The Style Station in Tweedbank.

Mum Jennifer told us: “This was all Frankie’s idea.

“After seeing the cancer advert on TV she asked how she could help.

“The Little Princess Trust do such wonderful work and I’m so proud of Frankie for donating almost all of her hair.”

The Little Princess Trust was founded just over a decade ago by the parents of Hannah Tarplee.

The youngster, who eventually lost her battle with cancer, had enjoyed wearing a wig made from real hair during her treatment.

And the Trust in her memory has allowed thousands of others in a similar situation to also have specialist real-hair wigs.

Friday’s big chop was the first time Frankie’s hair had been cut for over two years.

But after going under the scissors, the primary three pupil was happy with the new-look bob she will be sporting over Christmas.

She said: “I was scared to look at first but I quite like it.”

The Style Station in Tweedbank donated the cost of the hair cut to Frankie’s fundraising page.

Stylist Hannah Falconer said: “I did a similar hair cut for a friend of my mum to give to the same charity but this is the first time we’ve had a little girl in to have her long hair cut off.

“It takes a lot of courage to have all of your hair cut off – so well done Frankie.”

As well as donating her hair Frankie is also raising money to help the same charity manufacture the real-hair wigs.

And so far she has raised almost £350.
