A STREET in Galashiels had to be closed on Sunday after a trampoline was blown onto a roof.

A chimney was damaged during the incident in Victoria Street just after 8am.

And falling rubble also caused damage to a car parked beneath.

Gusts of up to 70 miles-per-hour were recorded in the Borders during Sunday.

Scottish Borders Council and Police Scotland cordoned off the road for more than three hours while fire crews from Galashiels and Edinburgh removed the trampoline.

Further checks were carried out to the roof and chimney before the road was reopened.

A Scottish Borders Council spokesperson said: “Following a report of fallen and dangerous masonry in Victoria Street, Galashiels on Sunday the council attended and in addition to erecting barriers for public safety made immediate arrangements for the building to be made safe, which was done so the same day.”
