THEY may not be feeding 5,000 quite yet but God's Kitchen in Selkirk is certainly pulling in the punters.

Founded last September by Selkirk Baptist Church the Sunday afternoon dining club is proving to be hugely popular.

Dozens enjoy the weekly feast and blether, aptly named God's Kitchen.

And even more will be made welcome.

Rev Brian Talbot told us: "It's a new kind of church service every Sunday afternoon for folk that have some faith or none.

"The 'service' consists in sharing a first class home-cooked meal around a table with folk who might find church a little daunting.

"Between the main course and desert, someone might share some creative writing, someone might bring a guitar and share a song, one of the children might show us a picture they’ve just coloured in.

"We read from the bible.

"Jesus had a lot to say whilst sharing a meal with ordinary folk in the community.

"Sometimes what Jesus said, leads us into a good conversation - other times, we go straight for the pudding."

Sukie, from Sukie’s Scones pop-up shop fame, is the main God's Kitchen chef.

And there's rarely a scrap left on the plates by the end of each meal.

Selkirk Baptist Church provides the meals for free and they'd like to share their generosity far and wide.

The Rev Talbot added: "The outcome is community.

"We are meeting neighbours of all ages, from all walks of life, becoming friends and sharing burdens in prayer.

"It’s been good…and we want more folk to come join us."

God's Kitchen takes place every Sunday afternoon from 4.30pm at Connections, 35 Back Row, Selkirk.
