FUNDRAISING footballer Jack Fourie has been given the thumbs up by his hero Doddie Weir.

The primary six pupil at Melrose Primary not only completed a five kilometre run for charity, but he also organised his own coffee morning.

Jack, along with the other members of Melrose Football Club, were tasked with raising between £10 and £100 for a forthcoming tour to the Netherlands.

But the 10-year-old decided to double his efforts and also raise money for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

The Foundation was founded by former Scotland rugby star Doddie Weir after his motor neuron diagnosis.

As well as funding research, the Foundation supports others who are fighting the illness.

Jack's dad, Andries, told us: "Jack has been following Doddie Weir's efforts in raising funds into research about motor neurone disease."

Through his 5km and coffee morning Jack raised a total of £650 - £200 towards the Melrose FC trip to the Netherlands and £400 towards the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation.

Melrose FC offered as an incentive a strip for the player who raised the most money.

And making the presentation this week at Melrose Primary School was the former Scotland rugby star.
