POPULAR Scottish classics are to be served up at the Hawick Music Club later this month.

The Agapanthus Duo will take to the stage at the Heart of Hawick on Sunday, February 24.

Pianist Andrew Sherwood and violinist Jim Letham bring with them vast experience and a repertoire of great music.

The duo champion many neglected Scottish composers.

Jim, who was one-time president of Hawick Music Club, is a composer, pianist, educator and conductor of several choirs including the Abbey Consort.

And has done a great deal to support and promote all forms of music in the Borders.

Andrew grew up in Africa where he first picked up the violin as a teenager.

A scholarship to the Royal College of Music led to a break with the Royal Opera House before freelancing in British orchestras including the Scottish Camber Orchestra and leading the Mercury Ensemble for Ballet Rambert.

Performing has always gone hand in hand with teaching and he has been professor of violin at Trinity Labon Conservatoire for many years.

His students visit the Borders every year and perform in Hawick.

The Agapanthus Duo concert in Hawick starts at 2.30pm on Sunday, February 24.

Tickets for non-members are priced at £10 for adults and free for accompanied under 18s.

They are available from the Heart of Hawick box office on 01450 360688.
