A SCHIZOPHRENIC cannabis smoker smashed two windows at Labour Party offices in a protest against the government, a court heard on Thursday.

District judge Gerallt Jones at Caernarfon court imposed a six months community order and directed Owen King, 42, of Sandy Lane, Rhosneigr, Anglesey, pay £300 compensation, a £50 fine and £170 costs.

A two-year restraining order was made to stop him contacting Albert Owen the Ynys Môn MP. The prosecution dropped an allegation of harassment, which King denied.

Judge Jones said King had damaged windows and written graffiti. “It was clearly targeting your Member of Parliament,” the judge remarked.

King pleaded guilty to criminal damage at Holyhead on December 7. Prosecutor Diane Williams said a metal torch had been used to break the windows and slogans written with a black felt pen referring to the security services.

The prosecution said the restraining order was necessary because King’s conduct had caused concern to police, the MP and his staff.

Defence barrister Dafydd Roberts said : "It was completely the wrong way to go about a protest.” It was a protest against the government although Mr Owen was an opposition MP.

King had suffered a “relapse” in his mental health at the time.“He’s smashed two windows and written slogans.

"He was suffering an episode with his mental health,” the lawyer said.

A probation officer said King had wanted to be “sectioned” to return to a psychiatric unit.

He received benefits and smoked cannabis occasionally, she added.
