IT'S already Scotland's longest-running walking festival.

And later this year Selkirk, along with the Ettrick and Yarrow valleys, will stretch the Scottish Borders Walking Festival a few more miles.

The 2019 festival will run for an entire week from Saturday, September 7.

Sue Briggs, who is a member of this year’s organising team, told the Border Telegraph: “We are delighted that Selkirk and the surrounding Ettrick and Yarrow valleys have been chosen to host the Scottish Borders Walking Festival in this special 25th year.

“We believe this year’s festival will have something for everyone, with walks led by Scottish Borders Council’s Ranger service, volunteer walk guides and local people alongside special interest themed strolls and a full social event programme. T

"here is also exciting news regarding guest presenters, sponsors and rather unusual festival partners.

“The Festival is non-profit-making with charges only aiming to cover costs. Every attempt is made to keep prices low and much of what is on offer is free or Pay As You Please, in the same style as the Edinburgh Fringe.

“The full programme details are being finalised and will be provided in mid-March, which I hope will encourage local people and visitors to come along to celebrate the 25th festival.”

The Scottish Borders Walking Festival took its first baby steps around West Linton in 1995.

Ever since thousands of ramblers have enjoyed the organised walks held by different communities across the region.

The full programme and tickets for the 25th festival will be available from Monday, April 1 at www.borderswalking.com
