SHOPPERS are in for a laugh when they visit Sainsbury's in lead up to Comic Relief.

Throughout much of March customers will have the opportunity to join staff in sporting a red nose.

And it has nothing to do with catching a cold.

Comic Relief is returning to the supermarket chain to celebrate a 20 year partnership.

The milestone will be marked in the Peebles branch with a number of fundraising events in the run-up to Red Nose Day.

As well as a tombola, fancy dress and customer car wash, staff will be selling red noses to raise money for the charity.

Customer trading manager Margot Swanston said: “We in Peebles Sainsbury’s love to be involved in Red Nose Day.

"We have a whole week of activities planned to raise money in store.

"We kick off with a quiz night and we are also holding a bake sale which all the budding bakers amongst our staff are helping with. Tombola and ‘guess the weight of the cake’ are also planned in.”

And customers won’t see staff in their usual uniform on the main Friday either, as they will be decked out in a colourful array of fancy dress costumes.

Margot added: “We are holding a car wash and a ‘beat the manager challenge’ which will involve an Xbox gaming competition which I’m sure will be eagerly contested.”

Store Manager David Duncan added: “We’re really passionate about supporting this great cause and hope our customers continue to get involved and help support our exciting fundraising activities.”
