A 33-YEAR-OLD man is due to appear in court in connection with the death of a Hawick tourist in Benidorm.
Jim Clark, who is also 33, died after a fight broke out in a bar during the early hours of Friday morning.
He had been in the Spanish resort on a stag party.
Police, who have CCTV footage of the incident, arrested the man, who is also believed to be from Scotland, at Alicante Airport as he tried to board a flight back to the UK on Sunday.
A Spanish National Police spokesman said: “We received an emergency call at around 3.15am on Friday.
“Police were mobilised and arrived at the scene to find two people trying to assist another who was lying on the ground.
“He was confirmed dead shortly afterwards.
“What we know at the moment from witnesses is that there had been a fight moments earlier, apparently between British nationals who were on holiday like the dead man who was also a tourist.”
Following news of Mr Clark's death at the weekend, Border Telegraph readers posted their tributes on our social media sites.
Kendra Douglas said: "He will be sorely missed.
"The most hyper whirlwind of a man I've ever met. Heartbreaking"
And Carly March added: "Jim was such a nice lad."
