A 25-year-old man from Hawick has been crowned Young Volunteer of the Year award at the Citizens Advice Scotland conference in Cumbernauld.

Ewan Imray was presented with a silver quaich by HRH Princess Anne, who is the patron of the charity.

Citizens Advice branches across the country are a lifeline for thousands of people who need help and support.

Ewan believes volunteering with CAB is both rewarding and beneficial.

He told us: "I was honoured to be recognised for my work with the bureau.

"The work CAB does is amazing and really each and every volunteer should be rewarded for the value they add to their communities.

"Although I have my degree, it was my work with CAB that set me apart from other candidates when applying for jobs.”

Ewan has volunteered with CAB for the past four years.

Project leader Andrea Mee is delighted that his hard work has been recognised.

She said: "I am absolutely thrilled that Ewan has been recognised in this way.

"We’re all extremely proud of him.

"In the four years he has been with us he has become an integral member of our team, and is a great ambassador for the CAB service – and indeed for the Borders.

"But of course I am just as proud of all of our volunteers and staff here.

"We provide a free, impartial and confidential support service that is here for everyone no matter what the question."
