STUDENTS from Borders College didn't need to visit the Pleasure Beach for some hair-raising moments in Blackpool last week.

All six representatives from the Hairdressing and Fashion Make Up department won prizes at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) finals.

Qualifying for Blackpool took place last month at the regional heats in Edinburgh.

Despite being up against the best from across the UK, the Borders College students helped the South of Scotland area to win the overall prize for most points collected on the day.

And it was also a day to remember for Zoey Grahame from Kelso.

The 23-year-old, along with model Rosie Atherton, claimed the Commercial Cut and Blow Dry award.

Zoey was also the recipient of the Sue Bleasedale Bloomin Marvelous Memorial Trophy for the highest overall points in all hair and barbering sections - scoring an amazing 148 out of 150.

Zoey's performance also also earned her sponsorship from the Hair and Beauty Industry Authority (Habia) and has been invited to attend next year’s competition in the professional category.

In the First Year Ladies Commercial Blow Dry final, 37-year-old Claire Boyle from Selkirk, along with her model Carrie Stormont, was announced as the winner.

And there was also a fourth-place award for Cheryl Johnstone from Hawick, and her model Jean Brogan.

Heiton student Baillie Steele turned back time her model Rachel McDonald.

The 19-year-old claimed a third-place finish in the Period 1940s Make Up final

Brittany Barnes from Galashiels, along with model Robyn Hartdegen, also earned fourth place In the Ladies Evening Style section.

Borders College lecturer Wendy McCutcheon told us: "We were extremely thrilled to come away from the finals with six awards.

"We knew the competition would be tough, with colleges from all over the country competing, so for the students to perform like they did on the day made it such an achievement and we are extremely proud of them.

"A lot of hours and hard work has gone in to the AHT Competition from both staff and students over the last few months and results reflect this. I would like to thank the students and staff for all their hard work and getting us to where we are.

"We couldn’t have asked for a better result so well done. Roll on next year!”
