FIDDLE fans in Melrose were recently treated to an award-winning Scottish band perform earlier this month

Contemporary Scottish fiddle band Blazin’ Fiddles entertained a big crowd at the Corn Exchange hosted by Live Borders.

A spokesperson told us: “Blazin’ Fiddles are one of the world’s most prolific fiddle groups.

“No other band has quite managed to capture the excitement, sensitivity and raw fire of Scottish music all at once”.

“One of today’s foremost Scottish folk acts, Blazin’ Fiddles combine over 20 years’ experience with ever-renewed musical appetite, vitality and sophistication.

Blazin’ Fiddles are currently celebrating their 21st year of touring and recording and show no signs of slowing down. Over their career the traditional music band have released nine albums and been to many different places on tour.

The band combines four fiddlers; Bruce MacGregor, Jenna Reid, Rua Macmillan, and Kristan Harvey with guitar and piano played by Anna Massie and Angus Lyon.

In 2013, they won Scottish Folk Band of the Year at the MG ALBA Scottish Traditional Awards. And previously took part in London’s BBC Proms in 2005.

Hamish Moir, Events and Programming Officer said: “Blazin’ Fiddles are at the top of their game and the contemporary music scene.

“It’s great to see these quality Scottish acts perform locally as part of a wider programme to bring quality acts and musicians to a town hall in the Borders, instead of having to travel to Glasgow or Edinburgh.

“We loved seeing them perform in Melrose!”
