AN Oxton Scout has been presented with a prestigious honour at the Scottish Parliament.

Josh Beaumont, a member of the Lauderdale Scout Group, earned the Explorer Scout Young Leader Belt.

The 15-year-old is only the second Lauderdale Scout to earn the Young Leader belt, mirroring his older sister Abbey’s efforts when she received the award three years ago.

His achievement was recognised by Lauderdale MSP Christine Grahame, who presented Josh with his belt during a recent visit to Holyrood with the Lauderdale Scout Group.

“I was delighted to be interrogated by Lauderdale Explorer Scout Group at Parliament recently,” said Ms Grahame.

“Not only to meet these impressive young people but to present to Josh his well-deserved and hard-earned award of his Young Leader belt.

“I am sure Josh’s achievement will inspire others to follow in his footsteps.”

The Explorer Scout Young Leader Scheme is an opportunity for Scouts to make a positive impact in their communities and to fulfil the service elements of many of the top awards in Scouting.

Josh said: “I am really happy to get my Young Leader belt.

“I really enjoy working with the younger sections in the Scout Group.

“Earning my belt was not easy but it helped me to learn what makes a good leader.”
