WORK has begun on moving the taxi rank in Galashiels.

The stances will be moved back to the other side of Channel Street – where they were originally before 2013.

For the past six years taxis have been parking outside the Thomas Cook travel agency.

But space is being made outside decorating shop John Mill and Son to make it easier for customers.

A spokesperson for SBC said: “The current one way system in Channel Street is in place under a temporary traffic order – it was introduced in October 2013 during the building of the Transport Interchange.

“The temporary one way order is now being made permanent, with the taxi rank being moved to the correct side of the road to allow taxi customers to access the vehicles directly from the pavement.

“The works are being carried out by SBC Contracts alongside preparatory works for the Coulter’s Candy sculpture and street lighting improvements and are due to be completed by the end of April.”
