A PLANNED full closure of Galafoot Bridge near Galashiels has been postponed for a week.

Contractors working on the A6091 bridge near Kingsnowe roundabout were due to close the full carriageway from 8pm this (Monday) evening.

But the closure will now take place on Sunday, April 21 from 8pm until 6am the following morning.

With most of the resurfacing work completed, workmen will now improve safety on the parapet system.

Over the next few weeks they will be raising the height of the existing parapets.

This final stage of the works is due to be completed by Friday, May 31.

Tom Wallace from road contractors Amey, said: “Transport Scotland has held discussions with local stakeholders regarding increased traffic on these footpaths.

"Amey was subsequently asked to develop a solution for the bridge footpaths, which would improve overall safety; while taking into consideration the popularity of these footpaths as viewing platforms for local events.”
