A 26-year-old man attempted to defeat the ends of justice by giving police a false name, Jedburgh Sheriff Court was told.
Georgie Davison claimed he was Jordan Harrison, who is actually his deceased cousin.
The court heard there was a warrant out for the arrest of Davison at the time.
The offence happened at an address in Manse Gardens, Duns, on January 31.
Davidson of Pooley Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was fined £200.
