LOOKING for some culture this May Day bank holiday?

Ancrum has the answer.

The village will be welcoming Art@Ancrum for another year, introducing visitors to three full days of local artists and artwork.

Visitors can expect a wide variety of professional art and design-led work available to view and purchase.

A mix of 35 established and new artists and makers will participate in the exhibitions and demonstrations over the bank holiday weekend.

The event will include paintings, illustrations, ceramics, textiles, wood, sculpture, jewellery and more.

Art@Ancrum is currently in its seventh year and the unique event is hoped to repeat their success by attracting visitors from Scotland, the UK, and beyond.

Building on the success of the 2012 ‘Crossing Borders’ Art Trail exhibition, a group of local participants proposed a new initiative, a long weekend of Art@Ancrum.

Since then it has turned into an annual event, supported by the people of the village.

Ian Oliver, a spokesperson for the event, said: “Art@Ancrum has become an established favourite in the art world calendar.

“You can enjoy a stroll around the covetable village of Ancrum and pop into some of the charming cottages that will be home to the exhibitions. A truly wonderful way to while away a few hours.”

The artwork can be found in 11 different venues including artists' studios, the village hall and church, rustic outbuildings, and even the Bowling Club.

Local pub, the Cross Keys, will also be full of art as it will also house a special exhibition called Absent Friends containing work by artists who cannot attend in person, but whose work is respected and admired by the community.

To polish it all off, there will be food, Borders brewed beers and spirits and some cracking live outside entertainment, weather permitting.

This year the chosen charity is the "My Name’5 Doddie Foundation".

To raise money for the cause there will be collecting cans dotted around for contributions. And teas, coffees, cakes and scones will be served in the Village Hall thanks to the Roxburgh Federation of SWI.

The art extravaganza will be held from Saturday, May 4 to Monday, May 6. Open from 10am to 5pm daily.
