SHE has been serving the community of Melrose for almost all of her adult life.
On Saturday it was the town's turn to make sure Kathleen Dun was well looked after as she became Melrose's latest centenarian.
Kathleen, who was awarded the British Empire Medal in the early 1980s for services to the local community, spent her 100th birthday with friends, family and many of the people who have taken over her mantle as ambassadors for the town.
After receiving her telegram from Her Majesty The Queen, Kathleen entertained a stream of well-wishers at her Ormiston Terrace home.
As well as community councillors Val Miller and William Windram, Melrosian Elect Ben Magowan, along with his Left-hand and Right-hand men, also arrived with flowers.
Kathleen, whose brother Jack has been a stalwart of Melrose Rugby Club, was also visited by Greenyards President Douglas Hardie and Sevens Secretary Gordon Chisholm.
Kathleen's birthday celebrations will continue this weekend with a lunch party for family and friends at Burst Hotel.
