GET your popcorn at the ready as Thirlestane Castle is set to bring an open-air cinema to the Borders.

And it will kick-off the weekend of the BVAC Classic Festival of Motoring.

Thirlestane Castle have partnered with Blue Monkey Events to bring a series of outdoor cinema screenings this summer.

It will start with a showing of the original comedy caper The Italian Job at the end of May.

Starring Michael Caine and Noel Coward, the film is celebrating its 50th birthday this year.

And there are more events planned for later in the year.

Another open-air cinema will be held on September 13, with the film still to be decided.

Then, in a first for the Borders, drive-in cinema will be held on on October 30.

Fim buffs will be able to see Ghostbusters in an event to mark Halloween at the castle.

Edward Maitland-Carew, of Thirlestane Castle, said: “We are so excited to be bringing this new venture to the Scottish Borders alongside Blue Monkey Events.

“We hope The Italian Job will be a truly unique experience and get everyone in the mood for the BVAC Classic Festival of Motoring”.

Tickets for The Italian Job are on sale now via the Thirlestane Castle website.

The film will be shown on Friday, May 31 at 6.50pm and tickets are priced from £6-£42.50.

Cinemagoers will need to bring their own seating or hire one of the deckchairs from the venue.

Refreshments will be available to purchase on the night.
