A GALASHIELS treasurer has followed in the footsteps of her daughter - by become the Scout of the Year.

Jayne Findlay collected the Centenary Trophy last week from former leader of Galashiels Scouts, Stewart Bell.

The award had previously been won by Jayne's daughter eight years ago.

Mr Bell said: "Jayne has beavered away in the background for over 13 years, constantly learning new skills as the financial transactions have increased in volume and complexity.

"Her help has been vital in the running of the group.

"She is part of the Galashiels Scout family and thoroughly deserves to be recognised for her efforts.”

Jayne also received a long service award during the AGM from District Commissioner Douglas Allan.

The Centenary Trophy was donated to Galashiels Scouts to mark Stewart Bell's retirement, and recognises individuals who have made a positive difference to the lives of others, overcome difficulties or used their time and efforts for the benefit of others.
