A FEW big birthday celebrations are being planned for this year's Classic show at Thirlestane Castle.

The Borders Vintage Automobile Club is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Mini's launch on Sunday, June 2.

And they are also planning to mark a few other major milestones in the world of motoring.

A spokeswoman told us: "Quite incredibly, 2019 is a year that is absolutely jam packed with other motoring milestones, significant birthdays and anniversaries.

"From the Mini to the Ford Capri, Bentley to Fiat and the Austin Healey 3000 to the Jaguar Mk 2."

As well as being the 60th birthday of the Mini, this year is also the centenary of Bentley and Citreon, the 120th anniversary of both Fiat and Renault, and the 60th birthday of the Rolls Royce Phantom, the Triumph Herald, and the Austin-Healy 3000.

The Jaguar Mk2 has also just turned 60 years old.

Anniversaries to mark the Rover P4, which is 70 this year, and both the Porsche 914 and Ford Capri turning 50 will also be celebrated.

With more than 1200 classic and vintage vehicles of all shapes and sizes making the journey to Lauder, this year’s event promises to be an absolute classic.

Described as the ‘Best Classic Car Festival in Scotland’ there will be Veteran, Vintage and Classic Cars, Motorcycles, Commercial, Agricultural, Military, Steam and American Classes on show.
