HERIOT-WATT’S School of Textile and Design opened its doors to the public as students showcased their degree collections.

Audience fashionistas flocked into the sold-out Degree and Fashion Show at the Galashiels campus last week.

Kicking off the five-day event, guests were welcomed to view a runway show and exhibition of students’ collections on Friday.

Leading figures in the fashion industry were in attendance for this year’s runway theme Colour Block.

Several students were chosen to display their work on the catwalk, with four outfits from each designer.

They drew inspiration from a range of topics such as mental health, sustainability and Scottish fairy tales.

Professor Fiona Waldron, Head of School, said: “The annual Degree and Fashion Show is a wonderful chance to celebrate our students’ work, both internally and with the public.

“This year’s event was attended by industry professionals, VIP guests, friends, family and staff, who were all blown away with the standard of our students’ work.

"It was also a great opportunity to showcase our unrivalled facilities, which make our Scottish Borders Campus a stand-out place to study fashion and textiles.

“As well as celebrating our student’s work, we hope the show will encourage people who are considering a degree in fashion or design to join us at Galashiels.”

Currently, Heriot-Watt is ranked second in Scotland for Art and Design.

And was awarded International University of the Year 2018 by The Times & The Sunday Times.

Kerry Devine, originally from Stonehaven, moved to the Galashiels campus to study Textiles at Heriot Watt.

She commented: "Heriot Watt is a fantastic place to study Textiles and Design.

"I initially chose to apply here because of the amazing facilities and creative freedom.

"And I have really enjoyed studying here and attending this event reinforced that I made the correct decision as the standard of work was outstanding.

All the work produced by students was diverse and inspiring.

Everything had been very cleverly designed and was to a high quality.

The garments I saw were very innovative and exciting but also wearable.

And the event itself was professionally done and it was great to see so many people attending and enjoying our collections."
