A LONG-running trial involving two workers from a children's nursery in the Borders is expected to conclude next month.

Teresa Renton, 35, of Ainslie Terrace, and 33-year-old Nicola Jeffrey of Rachel Drive, both Duns, are alleged to have behaved in a threatening or abusive manner at Little Reivers Nursery in Duns between January 1, 2015, and August 1, 2016.

They pleaded not guilty to shouting, forcibly dragging children about, lifting them off the floor by the arm, locking children inside cupboards and refusing to let them out when they became distressed.

Jeffrey is also alleged to have seized hold of an injured child's arm who was receiving treatment from a colleague and it was later found out the arm had two fractures, as well as changing the nappy of a child in a public place in full view of the public on the concrete floor without using a mat or suitable equipment.

Five days of evidence have already been heard and the case will next call at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Friday, July 19.
