THE company who provided a plastic pitch for Glasgow Warriors has been awarded the contract for a 3G surface at the Greenyards.

WH Malcolm were also involved with the transformation of Hampden into an athletics venue for the Commonwealth Games.

And they also supplied synthetic surfaces at Annan Athletic's Galabank ground as well as Celtic and St Mirren's training centres.

Four companies applied for the Melrose contract during the tendering process.

This week Scottish Borders Council announced that Malcolm's were awarded the £910,000 contract.

Preparation work has already begun on the historic pitch.

The 3G surface is part of a wider £1.5 million development at the Greenyards, which also includes floodlights and a spectator walkway.
