COMMUNITY leaders in Galashiels have paid tribute to those who helped clean up the town after Braw Lads' Day.

Thousands of of revellers took to the streets to celebrate the biggest event on the town's calendar.

And members of Galashiels Community Council said they wanted to thank the council workers and volunteers for working through the night to clear away the mess.

Local publican Helen Calder told Wednesday's meeting: "I think we should congratulate the team who cleared up Bank Street Gardens following Braw Lads' Day.

"The place was pristine afterwards.

"People were out at 4am clearing the place up.

"At 9am I was down in the cellar in the Salmon Inn and when I came up I saw man at the Walter Scott statue with a bucket of water cleaning it.

"It really was a site to behold. We should give credit where it is due. The council did an excellent job, as did the Braw Lads' Committee."

The group were also delighted with how the day went.

Community councillor Tom Ingoldsby added: "It was a brilliant day and I think we should congratulate everyone who was involved in making it a success."
