POLICE have launched an appeal after a car was set on fire in a layby on the A7.

The incident happened around three miles North of Selkirk near to the Abbotsford Junction. 

The vehicle, a Silver Ford Galaxy Registration NL07XOW, was discovered on fire just after 11pm on Wednesday.

Detective Constable Bruce Dodds from the Community Investigation Department in Galashiels said: "As part of this inquiry we would urge anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously or walking on or near to the road way around 11pm to contact police immediately.”

Those with information can contact the CID in Galashiels via 101 and quote incident number 4705 of July 10. Alternatively, an anonymous report can be made to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
