A FORESTRY worker who crashed a car after attending the Hawick Common Riding celebrations was almost four times the legal alcohol limit, Jedburgh Sheriff Court has been told.
Twenty-year-old Callum Helling of Caroline Street, Langholm, pleaded guilty to driving with a breath/alcohol count of 82 microgrammes - the legal limit being 22.
The offence happened during the early hours of Sunday, June 9, at Mosspaul on the A7 where the car had left the road and ended up in a ditch.
He also admitted driving a friends car with no insurance.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client had been out socialising in Hawick but could not get a taxi home and made the foolish decision to drive.
Helling was fined a toss of £500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.
