ONE of the most exciting new artists in the Borders is coming down to earth at Old Gala House this summer.

Last week local artist Rachel Hunter launched her first solo exhibition, Land Lover.

Primarily a landscape artist, Rachel uses acrylic or poster paint, letting images emerge, often relating to the landscapes and archaeology of Scotland.

She completes her pictures using pen, charcoal, and pastel and aims to evoke the sense of a particular place in her work.

Rachel told us: “I’m inspired by the wonderful colours and shapes of the Border hills and am very excited to be exhibiting at Old Gala House."

Land Lover runs until September 1 at Old Gala House, Galashiels.

Admission is free, although donations are always welcome.

Phoebe Stewart, assistant curator for hosts Live Borders, said: "We’re delighted that Rachel is having her first solo exhibition with us.

"As a charity, Live Borders is very proud to support new and up and coming artists, and the Laird’s Room in Old Gala House is a perfect place to start."
