BOWHILL House and Grounds are offering a chance to be in spitting distance of Alpacas this month.

Everyone is encouraged to take a trek across the scenic grounds with the unusual four-legged friends on Wednesday.

Borders-based Velvet Hall Alpacas will offer ticket holders the chance to enjoy an extra-special hour-long experience with their Alpaca.

However, there are limited spaces for the Alpaca Trek so booking fast is necessary.

Those lucky enough to book on one of the four trek slots with Velvet Hall Alpacas will enjoy an hour with their very own alpaca.

Starting the day will be a gentle walk along the Estate’s trails and forest paths for around 30-40 minutes.

Each person will then have time to feed their alpaca and take some photographs for lasting memories.

And, until Friday, July 26 at 5pm, there will be 25 per cent off the standard ticket price of £20.

Sarah Richardson, Visitor Services and Marketing Manager at Bowhill House and Grounds, said: “Our Alpaca Treks will be a truly unique experiences that should not be missed.

“The animals are gentle, playful and inquisitive making this the perfect activity for families.

“Not only will those taking part have the chance to walk, feed, get to know and take pictures with their very own alpaca during the hour-long session, they will get to do all of this in the stunning surroundings of Bowhill House and Grounds.”

Based in the Tweed Valley near Innerleithen, Velvet Hall Alpacas have been giving people the chance to visit the extraordinary animals for over seven years.

The owners first became hooked on the beautiful animals when visiting the Border Union show in 2011, and now have 12 alpacas on their farm.

Alpaca Trekking at Bowhill House and Grounds will take place on Wednesday, July 31.

The one-hour slots are available at 10.30am, 11.30am, 1pm and 2pm.

Booking is essential to secure a place and is priced at £20 for one person with one alpaca.

Family or friends are welcome to come along for an additional £5 per person.

Following each trek, visitors can continue to enjoy Bowhill’s extensive grounds and enjoy a bite to eat at the Minstrel Tearoom.

And the little ones and the young at heart can get rid of any extra energy in the Adventure Playground.

For those not taking part in the trek, entry to Bowhill’s grounds is priced at £5.50 for adults, £4.50 for concessions and children aged 3-16, while under-3s go free.

Family passes for up to two adults and two children is £18.

The grounds and exhibition are open daily until August 31 and open Friday to Sunday in September.

And Bowhill House is open for tours in August and between October 26-27.
