VOLUNTEERS collected 24 bin-bags of rubbish along the north bank of the Gala water on Saturday.
The Gala Waterways Group also cleared overgrown vegetation on the 510 metre stretch adjacent to Currie Road.
As well as the 126 kilogrammes of rubbish, the 13 volunteers also removed a shopping trolley, a 1.4-metres wide roll of plastic film, a hub-cap and two traffic cones.
Gala Waterways chairperson Liz Jardine told us: "It was good to see such a good turnout of volunteers and the team worked overtime to clear an unexpected and challenging issue of flytipping.
"After all the rubbish removal and vegetation clear up we were ready for our tea, bacon rolls and cakes kindly provided by Adam Elder at 'Why Not' Cafe on Channel Street."
