A MOTORIST has been accused of causing the death of a 95-year-old woman in the Borders by careless driving.

Thirty year old Douglas Shannon from Selkirk appeared in private at Jedburgh Sheriff Court in connection with the fatal accident near Kelso in July last year.

He is charged with causing the death of great-grandmother Jessie Cunningham from Kelso on the A6089 road.

She was a passenger within a Ford Fiesta which was involved in a three vehicle collision on the Kelso to Gordon road.

She sustained serious injuries and was taken to Borders General Hospital where she passed away.

Shannon made no plea and the case was continued for further examination.

He was granted bail by Sheriff Colin Dunipace.
