ORGANISERS of the 25th Scottish Borders Walking Festival are taking their final steps.

Hundreds of hikers from across the country will arrive in the Royal Burgh on Saturday for a week of hiking and social events.

Included in the packed programme of walks and entertainment is a unique Dementia Friendly Stroll and Sing around the picturesque Haining on Saturday morning.

Sue Briggs from the organising committee told us: "Fans of the BBC Programme The Dementia Choir will need no persuading of the positive impact that music and singing can have on people with dementia. "And many newspapers reported the recent neuroscience findings that tell us walking is a superpower and can help unlock the cognitive powers of the brain.

"This is a chance to walk, listen, sing and take in the lovely grounds of the Haining House."

The Dementia Friendly Stroll, which is led by Walk It with singing by local choir Safety in Numbers, will start at the Haining at 10.30am.
