A LOCAL company has just had 45,000 square feet of their business unit roof covered with eco-friendly solar panels.

The mammoth renewable energy installation was fitted at a property in Tweedbank, owned by JSC Estates.

And the boss hopes this will be the first of many solar panel projects to be fitted on his properties.

Cameron Crawford from JSC Estates told us: "This was an exciting project as we wanted to provide eco friendly and sustainable units providing green power so as all our tenants can be environmentally conscious of their carbon footprint.

"We’re looking to roll out future projects to allow the remainder of our portfolio to have the option of green energy as well.

"It’s such an important issue that we all need to take responsibility for. Clean, green, renewable energy is the way forward."

The multi-use building at Tweedbank is home to several businesses.

Renew Green Energy, who are one of the tenants, carried out the installation work last month.

MD Brian Middleton believes it makes economic and environmental sense to go solar.

He said: "This is one of the biggest solar rooftop arrays in the Borders.

"It’s very exciting for us because of the potential for the client to save money and clearly it’s so much better for the environment.

"It’s all about savings and reducing carbon footprint for companies who have a conscious."
