A POIGNANT ceremony will take place on the steps of Peebles Parish Church this Sunday to mark the end of the town's branch of the Royal British Legion.
For the past 93 years Peebles British Legion has fundraised and helped veterans affected by war and service.
But an ageing membership led to a decision being made earlier this year for the branch to be dissolved.
On Sunday members and other servicemen will parade the branch's Colours outside the Church from around 9.40am.
Mike Stark from the Peebles branch of the British Legion told us: "It is with a great deal of sadness that this decision has been made."
Following a service inside the Parish Church, which is scheduled to start at 10am, the Standards will be officially handed over to the Church for permanent display close to commemorative tablets for fallen soldiers of World War I.
A further service will be held on Cuddy Bridge following the handover, where a plaque marking the 1918 Armistice as well as the centenary commemorations of last year will be unveiled.
The Peebles branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland will officially close on October 31.
