A HAWICK man has admitted assaulting a 70-year-old woman and robbing her of a handbag.

Martin Charlotte, 37, pleaded guilty on indictment to carrying out the attack while his face was masked in High Street, Hawick, on May 23.

He pushed the pensioner whereby she fell to the floor to her injury and robbed her of her handbag and contents.

Charlotte of Allars Crescent, also pleaded guilty to assaulting a man during the course of his employment at Robson Court, Hawick, on May 4, by jumping on top of him, placing a screwdriver against his chest, demanding that he gives him money, threatening to stab him and robbing him of a quantity of money.

Not guilty pleas to stealing a bottle of wine from Sainsbury's in Hawick on May 11 and assaulting a constable at Hawick Police Station on May 30 were accepted by the Crown.

Sentence was deferred at Selkirk Sheriff Court until October 21 for the production of background reports.

There was no application for bail and Charlotte was remanded in custody.
