DRIVERS will face even more disruption on the A7 next week.

The road will be closed south of Hawick between 8pm and 6am from Monday until Thursday.

It follows a series of closures.

Motorists are being diverted this week, until Friday, while maintenance work is carried out at Teviothead.

And, as previously reported, a series of night-time and weekend closures are planned south of Ashkirk from Thursday, October 17 through to Wednesday, October 30.

Next week's closure is to allow for repair work to take place by the Mosspaul Inn.

A spokesperson for Amey, which manages Scotland's trunk roads, said: "The works [south of Hawick] will benefit over 2,000 vehicles using these sections of the A7 each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

"A7 northbound traffic will be diverted to exit prior to Canonbie via a right turn onto the B7201, north of the Scottish Border.

"Traffic will continue on the B7201, through Kilpatrick Junction, for 12 miles to Newcastleton.

"From here, traffic will turn right onto a single track bridge on the B6357 and will proceed on this route for 18 miles to the Bonchester Bridge / A6088 Junction.

"Traffic will turn left onto the A6088, following the route for five miles and at the junction will turn left onto the A698 towards Hawick.

"At Mart Street Roundabout, traffic will take the third exit onto Mart Street and at the following roundabout, traffic will be able to rejoin the A7 and diversion will end.

"Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route as above but in reverse."
