A KELSO man has been banned from drinking alcohol until the outcome of his trial.

Joshua Watson has also been told he cannot enter licensed premises with the exception of supermarkets in Kelso.

The 25-year-old appeared from custody at Selkirk Sheriff Court and pleaded not guilty to three offences.

He is alleged to have assaulted his former partner at his home in Orchard Park last Saturday by throwing a drink over her, pushing her to the ground, seizing her by the arm, dragging her about and repeatedly seizing her neck and compressing her, all to her injury.

Watson also denied behaving in a threatening or abusive manner in the Black Swan Hotel in Kelso on Saturday by being verbally abusive to bar staff, refusing to leave when required to do so and making threats of violence.

He pleaded not guilty to a third charge of struggling violently with three police constables in Abbey Row, Kelso.

A trial date was fixed for Jedburgh Sheriff Court on January 7 with an intermediate hearing on October 29.

Watson was granted bail with the special conditions ordering him not to consume alcohol and has to submit a breath sample if requested by the police.

He is also banned from entering Earlston and is on a night time home curfew between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
