A 40-year-old man has been banned from entering Scotland until the outcome of his court case.
Richard Adey, from West Bromwich in the West Midlands, appeared from custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
He pleaded not guilty to assaulting Darren Murray at Church Square in Galashiels on October 20.
It is alleged he punched him repeatedly on the head, struggled violently with him and pulled out his hair all to his injury.
A trial date was fixed for January 24 with an intermediate hearing on December 16.
Sheriff Peter Paterson released Adey on bail with the special conditions not to contact a named man and woman and also not to enter Scotland unless attending court.
