IT has been revealed that the Scottish Borders is the luckiest place in Britain when it comes to big wins on the lottery.

To celebrate the National Lottery's 25th anniversary, operators have revealed that the TD postcode has enjoyed the most success of anywhere in the UK per head of population.

There have been 105 claims of prizes worth more than £50,000.

And no fewer than 10 lottery millionaires created since 1994.

Andy Carter from the National Lottery told us: “It certainly does pay to live in the Borders area with so many top tier prizes of over £50,000 being won by local residents.

"It’s incredible to see from our statistics that the TD postcode is actually the luckiest in the entire UK for winners of £50,000 or more per head of population.

"Over the last 25 years, the National Lottery has been making amazing things happen."

Local winners who have shared news of their win recently include David and Carol Martin from Hawick who scooped a whopping £33,035,323 Lotto jackpot prize in January 2016.

And earlier this year 19 colleagues from the ‘Icom-Scottech syndicate’ in Kelso won £1,000,000 on the Lotto draw - each taking home £52,600.

Mr Carter added: "Thanks to our National Lottery players, 565,000 good cause grants have been given out to projects big and small, that’s the equivalent of 200 life-changing projects in every UK postcode district making a huge impact on communities all over the country.

"On top of this, we have celebrated so many lucky winners who have won life-changing sums of money – here’s to another 25 years of making dreams come true.”
