CONSERVATIVE Craig Morley had the geographical gaffe on his website pointed out by a Labour councillor.
Morley's website for his candidacy for MP of Reading East featured the picture of Melrose Abbey, not Reading Abbey before the mistake was noticed by Labour Councillor Richard Davies.
Councillor Davies said: "It's amazing that he wasn't able to identify our most important heritage asset and one that the council worked hard with local people to restore and re-open to the public."
Prospective parliamentary candidate (PPC) Morley claimed that the mistake was made by his website designer who had chosen the incorrect image.
Mr Morley said: "The abbey is an important landmark of the town - I grew up with its imprint on the Reading landscape.
"It was an easy mistake for an external agency to make."
Mr Morley has now had the mistake corrected.
