AN appeal has been made by organisers of the Gala Remembers 2018 programme to help create a lasting legacy to the 639 men from the town who lost their lives in World War I.
Following the publication of a digital Book of Commemoration, on Remembrance Sunday, volunteers at Energise Galashiels want to build up a picture of the fallen.
They are encouraging everyone to view the digital book on their website - www.energisegalashiels.co.uk - and contact them if they know of any additional information about any of the listed men.
Bill White, chairman of Gala Remembers 2018, said: “ I am delighted that we have now created a lasting legacy for the town of Galashiels.
"This book will live on as a factual and historical reference for a very long time. I hope you find it of great interest and find what you are looking for.
"I certainly found the whole experience humbling to say the least. Please do get in touch with us to tell us what you think.”
As well as commemorating the men, the book also reflects on the Gala Remembers 2018 project which included exhibitions, lectures, film screenings, live music, light displays, street art and acts of remembrance held in the town in October and November last year.
It culminated in the Royal British Legion Scotland Remembrance Parade with a special Angel's Wings Service that evening.
