MORE than 80 Santas had fun on the run at the weekend in the woodlands around Harestanes.

Early morning rain and muddy conditions didn't put off dozens of brave bearded competitors at the annual Christmas fun run and family walk.

And for close to an hour a streak of crimson red was to be seen darting through the picturesque estate near Ancrum.

Tree-hanging elves and a few other seasonal surprises awaited the runners and walkers.

Santa Run organiser Lori Lee from Live Borders was delighted with the turn out.

She told us: "This event is an ideal day out for those already in the festive spirit as well as those who need some extra encouragement.

“It was great to see people who have participated in previous Santa Runs coming back once again to enjoy what a brilliant day out to start the festive period.

“We were lucky it stayed dry this year and we had plenty of smiling faces taking on the course and enjoying the Harestanes atmosphere following the run.”

All finishers in both the 3km fun run and 1.5km walk were treated to a Christmas treat as well as a hot drink.

The Santa Fun Run and Family Walk is the first event of a jam packed festive calendar for Harestanes this year.

From Friday all the way through to Christmas Eve Santa will be returning to Harestanes each day.

Apparently a mischievous elf has found their way to Santa’s Harestanes Headquarters and somehow thrown the Christmas preparations into disarray.

Families will be able enjoy 40-minute performances as Santa attempts to get Christmas back on track.

There will also be a chance to meet Santa in his grotto between shows.

Tickets for Santa’s Harestanes Happening are available from www.liveborders.org.uk.
