CHRISTMAS arrived in Hawick last weekend as Disney's Princess Anna and Queen Elsa, brought a Frozen chill to the Heart of Hawick.

In an event run by Live Borders, visitors to the local cinema were treated to an appearance by the Disney royalty as part of the Christmas light switch-on in Heart of Hawick and to see in the Christmas film season which will feature Frozen 2 in December.

The second instalment of the Frozen films was officially released on Friday, November 22, and will be played as part of Heart of Hawick's Christmas programme on Friday, December 20.

At the launch of the Christmas programme, plenty of little ones dressed up as their favourite characters from Frozen, so there were plenty of Elsas, Annas and little Olafs running around.

From the Christmas light switch-on, Sophy Delavigne, Operations Manager at the Heart of Hawick said: “We’re very excited about our festive programme at the Heart of Hawick this year, and the wonderful festive buzz at the event today was the perfect way to launch it.

"We hope this helps to make this Christmas an extra special one for all our customers.

“Our festive programme includes something for everyone, with some surprises along the way. As a charity, Live Borders aims to help our communities to be healthier, happier, and stronger, and we hope that these events will bring happiness and a sense of community spirit over the festive season.”

Heart of Hawick will also be hosting a Christmas Film Week beginning December 10, and ending on December 15, where a selection of festive films will be available for just £5 per ticket and will feature some all time great Christmas films like It's A Wonderful Life, Home Alone and Arthur Christmas.

Leading up to the big day, the Heart of Hawick café will host a candlelit Carol Service on Saturday, December 21 at 7pm, lead by the Wilton Dean SWI Choir, and mulled wine and mince pies will be served. Tickets will be £5.

From December 1 there will be plenty to see and do at Heart of Hawick, including screenings of the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company's performance of The Winter's Tale, starring Kenneth Branagh and Dame Judi Dench, as well as the opera Tosca, live from Milan and the Royal Opera House's performance of The Nutcracker ballet.
