A 31-year-old man who plagued his former partner with text messages pleading for them to get back together has been jailed for 150 days at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.

Wayne Stilwell continued to send the messages despite the woman telling him she wanted to be left alone.

The messages also accused the woman of having a new partner.

Stilwell pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening or abusive behaviour with a domestic aggravation.

The offence happened in Main Street, Gordon on February 14.

He also admitted a breach of his bail conditions by contacting the woman four days later when he was prevented from doing so.

The court was told that Stilwell, who gave an address in Galashiels, was currently in custody in connection with another matter which has still to be resolved.

Defence lawyer Mat Patrick said his client had wanted the matter to be dealt with instead of being carried over until the outcome of the outstanding case.

He added that the relationship was well and truly over.

In addition to the prison sentence, a non-harassment order for three years was imposed preventing Stilwell from having any contact with the woman.
