PEEBLES High pupils living around the West Linton area are being offered a local community centre for studying.

An announcement on the schooling of the 1200 pupils while their fire-ravaged school remains closed is expected today.

But staff at the Newlands Community Centre are flinging open the doors for up to 20 of the students to use for as a study space.

Joe Fernand from Newlands told us: "Since the terrible fire at Peebles High School and its closure until further notice the Newlands Centre is opening its doors to Peebles High School students offering them a safe, warm and equipped study zone with smart board.

"We can accommodate up to 20 pupils.

"Newlands Volunteers will coordinate adult supervision of the study zone plus assist students getting online to access student resources and where possible coordinate volunteer tutors."

Newlands is also appealing for any volunteers to help at the makeshift study zone.
